Nuvvu Podi

Nuvvu Podi aka sesame seed powder is very delicious powder that can be had with steaming hot rice or can be used to flavour curries. Nuvvu Podi is one of my favorites ofcourse after the traditional andhra gun powder.

Nuvvu podi has fairly less ingredients but has extraordinary taste. The sesame seeds bring in good flavour. This podi can be stored in air tight container for about 2 weeks.

  • Sesame seeds - 200gm (approx 1.5 cup)
  • Groundnuts - 1/2 cup
  • Red Chilli - 10-12 ( increase or decrease as per your spice level but 10 should do)
  • Coconut powder - 1/3 cup
  • Garlic - 3-4 cloves (optional)
  • Salt - To taste
  • Oil - 1/4 tsp

  • Heat a pan and add the oil. Once the oil is hot, roast the red chillies. Remove to a plate.
  • Dry roast sesame seeds, groundnuts and remove to a plate.
  • Let the ingredients cool. Once cool grind them to a powder along with coconut powder and sufficient salt.
  • Your nuvvu podi is ready.

  • Roast the ingredients on a low setting. This brings out good flavour and also you would hardly brown the ingredients.
  • If you do not like the flavour of sesame seed dominating, you can increase the amount of groundnuts.
