Besan Ladoo | Microwave Cooking

For Varalakshmi Pooja this year, I was at my mom's place. Mom and I decided to go for simple sweet dishes for prasadam that do not consume a lot of time yet are delicious. So we made almost 3 ladoo varieties. Can you believe that??? :) We made rava ladoo, besan ladoo and oats ladoo the previous day of the pooja.

The microwave version of the besan ladoos took me only about 5 minutes. Plus I did not have to constantly stir it like we have to do on the stove top. My hands really thanked me for that :) The ghee usage was just about 4-5 tbsp. Do give this a try and am sure you would fall in love with these ladoos.

So here's what you'll need and how you would go about the recipe.

Ingredients
  • Besan / Gram Flour / Kadala Maavu / Senaga Pindi - 1 cup
  • Sugar - 1/2 cup (increase/decrease as per your taste) + 1 tsp
  • Cardamom / Elaichi - 4-5 pods
  • Rava / Sooji - 1 tsp (optional)
  • Raisins - few to decorate on ladoos
  • Ghee - 4-5 tbsp
Procedure
Powder the cardamom with a tsp of sugar in a mixie jar or powder as is in a small mortar-pestle. In the pic below I used more sugar since I was making elaichi powder in larger quantity.

Powder the sugar and keep aside.
Roast raisins in a little ghee and keep aside.

In a microwave safe bowl, add 2 tbsp ghee and microwave for 30 seconds. Add besan, rava and rest of ghee and microwave for 2 minutes.

Mix well. Microwave for another 2-3 minutes stirring after every minute.

Once the mixture has cooled down, add the sugar powder, cardamom powder and mix well.

Make lemon sized ladoos. Just hold a little mixture in the hand and press into a ball shape. Then start tossing the ball to give a smooth texture to it. At this stage you would find a little ghee oozing out. Even after tossing the ball a bit, if you are unable to shape the ladoos then you may add a little ghee.

Top with roasted raisins or any dry fruit of your choice.

Store in air tight container.

Note:
You might find that the texture is powder-y. But once you start shaping them into balls, you'll find the ghee coming out and it would be easy to shape the ladoos. So don't add more ghee when making the ladoos. You can add ghee even while shaping the ladoos if you find the need.
