Dal Powder - jiffy version

This dal powder known as 'annam lo podi' in telugu is something you cannot miss when you make a visit to any of the andhra hotels. This version of dal powder is easiest to make and tastes heavenly when had with hot rice with a little ghee. My mouth is already watering :D

This dal powder is the jiffy version and not the conventional way of making the dal powder. In the conventional way, it is made with 4 types of dals and this shall be posted later.

  • Groundnuts - 1/4 cup
  • Fried Channa Dal / Daliya / Pottu Kadalai Paruppu / Putnala Pappu - 1/2 cup
  • Peppercorns / Miriyalu / Milagu - 1/2 tsp
  • Jeera - 1 tsp
  • Hing - 1/4 tsp
  • Red Chillies - 10-12
  • Garlic Pods - 9-10
  • Oil - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt - to taste

  • In a kadai, add oil and fry the red chillies, peppercorns, jeera and groundnuts.
  • Before switching off the gas, add the fried channa dal, garlic pods.
  • Let the ingredients cool.
  • Powder the fried ingredients with salt and hing.
  • Serve with hot rice and ghee.
